Harlow Recruitment

Are you proficient in creating 2D wiring diagrams and harness designs and have a strong understanding of electrical principles, circuit analysis and power distribution? The client I am working with were built to further the legacies of the most beautiful cars in the world and upcycle specialist industrial fleet vehicles. They restore, enhance and create with knowledge that these vehicles have a cultural value far beyond their function. And they know that each vehicle represents an uncompromised expression of the original and that electrification answers the questions to usability, reliability and sustainability which empowers their customers to enjoy the vehicles on a daily basis.

Reporting to the Control Systems and Electronics Lead, you will play a critical role in designing, developing and optimising electrical distribution systems for a range of systems. Your expertise will contribute to the creation of functional, reliable and efficient electrical systems that power our innovative solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and Development:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and integrate electrical distribution systems for various systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • System Architecture:
    • Define the architecture and topology of electrical distribution systems, considering factors like load distribution, voltage regulation, component selection, and safety mechanisms.
  • Wiring and Harness Design:
    • Create detailed wiring diagrams and harness designs, specifying wire gauges, connectors, routing, and protection measures to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Component Selection:
    • Identify and evaluate appropriate electrical components such as connectors, relays, fuses, and switches, taking into account factors like functionality, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Simulation and Analysis:
    • Utilise simulation tools to model and analyse the behaviour of electrical distribution systems under different operating conditions, identifying potential issues and optimising performance.
  • Prototyping and Testing:
    • Collaborate with team members and, when necessary, other engineering disciples to build and test electrical systems, troubleshoot issues, and review designs based on feedback from real-world testing.
  • Documentation:
    • Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including schematics, design specifications, testing procedures, and integration guidelines.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical engineers, software developers, and quality assurance, to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems within the overall product design.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in electrical distribution systems engineering, and apply this knowledge to the enhancement of our product designs.

Required:

  • A degree in Electrical/Automotive Engineering or have equivalent experience.
  • You will be proficient in creating 2D wiring diagrams and harness designs and have a strong understanding of electrical principles, circuit analysis and power distribution.
  • Not only will you have a familiarity with industry standards and regulation related to electrical systems, for example ISO, SAE and IEC, you will also have experience with simulation and analysis tools for electrical systems.
  • You may even have experience with 3D CAD harness modelling and with industry wide wire harness design programs although this is not essential.
