About the position
We are currently working with a company based in Worcestershire who design and manufacture precision tools for manual and robotic welding tools. With an exceptional retention rate, they not only work closely with all customers to ensure tooling solutions are designed, engineering and delivered on time, but they also adapt timescales to suit individual business and manufacturer needs.
Working with manufacturers from a wealth of industry sectors – ranging from confectionary, construction, industrial, automotive and the off-highway vehicle sector – all operations are carefully managed by our professional but friendly back-office team and the latest Enterprise, Resource and Planning software.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist in defining controls architecture, platform, and functionality.
- Design and develop new machine controls including robotic, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic and vision and safety systems.
- Develop and test controls performance through modelling, bench, and application testing.
- Integration and build of systems in development and bespoke systems.
- Support design, selection, and integration of electronic components and equipment.
- Communicate mechanical requirements of systems to design staff.
- Identify controller hardware to meet I/O and computational requirements.
- Perform test procedures; troubleshoot test environment and instrumentation issues.
- Process and analyse test data, test report generation.
- Provide analysis, insight, and feedback for development.
- Development Software and Tools for Embedded Systems create, maintain, and keep current all hard copies and electronic data bases: all electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics; panel layouts; PLC, operator display, operator interface, and robot programs; machine power distribution and all related vendor controls component part documentation.
- Interfaces with internal engineering, project management and customers.
- Supports electrical installation via interfacing with electrical installers.
- Utilizes PLC/HMI skills and knowledge to resolve problems, contribute to development of new products/processes and maintenance/improvement of existing equipment/processes.
- Completes the actual PLC programming and HMI screen programming for production projects.
- Collects and analyses data, justify procedural changes or process modifications, and established operating procedures for the plant throughout the life of continuous improvement projects.
Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 4 years related work experience in programming PLC and other control devices used in material handling and other heavy industrial manufacturing equipment.
- Hands-on experience working on automation and/or electromechanical systems.
- Understanding of servo, stepper, or VFD motor control techniques and implementation.
- Regular travel locally, nationally may be required.
- High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications.
- Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).
- Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
- Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as internal and external clients.
- Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
- Ability to work with and influence peers and management.
- Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting.
- Knowledge of and ability to use RS232, RS422, DH485, Ethernet, DH+, PROFINET, Device Net, Control Net and remote I/O communications protocol.
